BrightCity rely heavily on tools to remote control to customers' computer systems. The ability to take control of a customer's computer, with their permission of course, has made a major difference the computer support industry. Here is some information revealing our trade secrets!
Teamviewer. BCL strongly recommend this tool. We have purchased this software and added it to our website. We can now offer remote support to all our existing customers, saving travel, plus also being able to setup systems in customers homes. We have even fixed issues abroad where customers have set themselves on in a hotel or cafe. You can use this product FOR FREE if your use is non-commercial. With the paid for version, we have been able to inbed our own logo and message.
RealVNC. This tool is free. You install a copy of the host edition onto your PC or server that you want to take control of. You need to open a port, default is 5900, on your router and also list it as an exception on your Windows Firewall. Set a strong password on the host. Install the viewer on another PC and you can connect to the host. There are many advanced options you can setup - such as blacking out screen when you take control, stopping the use of the hosts keyboard and mouse while you use it etc.
Zolved. Fantastic software - again free - where you can get help from a 'friend'. The host installs the "share my screen option" and your friend installs the "view or control" program. The host can then give his unique connection information to the friend and share his/her screen. Smacks very much of VNC, but is excellent.
