From March a new law means that all internet service providers (ISPs) will have to keep information about every e-mail sent or received in the UK for a year. It is an EU directive and started on the 15th March 2009. It is not the content of the email, just the "from, to and when". This also includes all the spam. 600 public bodies will have access to this information. The government will be paying ISPs between 25 and 60 million pounds.
