Britannia Zinc - closed down in 2003.

Many ex-Britannia Zinc Ltd employees left to work for other companies, or, like me, left to start up their own businesses.

There were some excellent employees at Britannia Zinc. It was a hard game for those on plant, working in the Sinter Plant, the ISF and Refinery. Alot of people worked hard to try to keep it open. The price of zinc was $750 a ton when we were closed down. After we closed, the zinc price was $2990 per ton! We produced some 90,000 tons per year! [Editor] And now a full on metals boom 2007!!

If you have found this page, why not add your name to the list and let us know what you and your company does? Simply send me an email, details below. Maybe an ex-Britannia Zinc employee can help, maybe you can do some business together? Either way it would be good to hear from you, and maybe one of your old colleagues might have their email address on this page?

This is the article from the BBC news website about our Britannia Zinc plant closure.

Paul has recently (2006) got married! (2007) and Paul has proven that the lead did not effect him, even though we kept sending him out to site. He now has a new baby, called Max.

Has anyone heard from our lovely nurses, the vampires who took our blood for lead testing? Pat Bowles, Pearl?

Steven Matthew, ex Technical Manager. "I'm still in South Africa but I started consulting about 6 years ago and haven't looked back.  Its a good time with the metals boom, basically I've got so many jobs I have to knock them back.  I mainly work for Amplats in South Africa, but I commute all over the world and seem to be on a plane every second weekend.

I see that you've started up a BZL contact list, which is how I found you as I'm trying to get in touch with John Hudson.  Recently a job came up in India for an ISF expert and I thought he might be interested.  You give a contact for him at Solagasor but I can't find it on the net.  Do you have John's e-mail address. [Editor] can someone get John's email address out to Steven?

Contact Steven on smatthew@metamets.com
